Who are the Delaneys?

This is Kalen and the boys a few years ago,
practicing sail changing! Top to bottom:
Kalen, Rickey, Brendan, Connor

The Delaney family consists of:

   Dan—the dreamer and skipper

   Kalen—the supporter and admiral

Melissa, 24—(last name Kronenthal) traveler, linguist, who with her German boyfriend, Manuel, will join the voyage off and on.

Brendan, 15—the first six foot Delaney anyone in the clan has heard of, Magic player, boogie boarder

Rickey, 14—artist, math whiz, who may invent new navigation methods on this journey

Connor, 10—joker, musician, repository of endless energy

 The Vessel is:

Rosalie Clare, home port Poulsbo, Washington.  A John Lidgard designed and built ketch.  She is 70’ overall, 63’ on deck with an 18’ beam.  She displaces about 42 to 50 tons depending on load, and has 13 tons of lead in her modified fin keel.  Her construction is of mahogany on oak frames with all members soaked in epoxy and then fastened.  She has an eighth of an inch fiberglass skin to make her fair.  And fair she is as anyone who sees her will attest.  She sails like a dream.  Of course we’re not prejudiced.  Her name is the one Dan and Kalen would have given a daughter if they had produced one.  They never imagined having a girl this size.

R.C., as we like to call her, lies at anchor in Montague Harbor, British Columbia gulf islands.  The masts are now off white, not red as in this picture.
